We provided a solution for tracking people and vessels that uses double redundancy as insurance against disaster.
Lynn and Inner Dowsing are a pair of wind farms located in the North Sea, in the shallow waters at the entrance to the Wash off the coast of Lincolnshire. They were developed as a single unit, with construction taking place 2006–2009.
We installed a vessel tracking system using AIS, as well as a people tracking solution based on RFID.
The wind farms use a double-redundancy approach. Sensors are installed in Grimsby harbour, the offshore platform and also at a redundant site at Skegness RNLI lifeboat house. This guarantees that sensor data is always available, even if equipment is powered down.
