We provided multiple technologies for the operation of this major wind farm, as well as fitting out the offshore substation.

The 350MW Wikinger Offshore Wind Farm is Iberdrola Renewables’ first offshore project in Germany. It is situated in the German waters of the Baltic Sea, around 34km north-east of the island of Rügen. Construction began in 2015 with full generation commencing in late 2018.

We were commissioned to provide a complete marine management system together with full communications suite including Digital Trunked Radio using TETRA, marine and proband VHF. As well as the marine operations suite this included all the back end server and networking infrastructure with sensor packages at multiple sites and WAN connectivity across the system.

Packages aboard the substation were installed whilst it was under construction in the Navantia Shipyards in Cadiz and then commissioned once it was moved to its permanent location in the Baltic Sea. The design was then amended on location to meet a condition imposed by the Polish licensing authorities.

Following completion of the permanent operations building in the port of Mukran all systems from the construction base were migrated across with minimal disruption.
